So as the saying goes, better late than never - despite trying my hand at writing for a few years
now, I've officially embarked on a BLOG!
Say it out a loud and
you'll realize it sounds a little like 'Bog' (a slang word for you know
what). Well, I can tell you, this blog to some, might be exactly that - Mevan's written excretions! But for a few
others, there might be an interesting read once a in a while. So feel free to
comment/ criticize/ whatever.
My first bog, sorry BLOG
post is a thought that came to mind when coming up with a name for this
scene-cons*.
Think about it, the revered
"kurutu gee" on the 'kadapath pawura' (mirror wall) of Sigiriya and
every other bit of ancient writing that we most often call 'Sel lipi' (stone letters) are nothing but blogs!
Well yes, they may have
also served as name boards, sign boards, media campaign and propaganda for
the King and so on and so forth. But by and large the precious inscriptions
that we oggle over and get a few hundred archaeologists to 'try' to decipher, are the posts of ancient bloggers.
And Google would have been
proud to buy over Kadapath Pawura.com! Or well not really. Since all that it
contains (as far as we know up to now) is just one blogger's posts (possibly
a couple more).
Added to that, this guy was
terribly love sick, wrapped in melancholy. He may have even chewed
on some exotic herb growing on the slopes of the rock, I mean; women floating
topless on clouds? Seriously??
Long story short; these ancient blog posts are the only gateway to the world of history. Be it the cave drawings, the scribbles inside the pyramids or the Sel Lipi found at different locations in Sri Lanka.
Our entire perception of history has been based on these, since they have acted as 'documents' of fact rather than blog posts of bloggers. The blogger didn't like the King too much in 1st Century BC, and a thousand years later, kids at school listen to the teacher go "We all know that King-whoever was an evil king, King-somebody was an adulterer, King-thatbugger was a weak king, King-whatshisface was a useless, good for nothing king who ruined our country at the time".
So don't get me wrong - I'm
an avid lover of history and mysterious stories and kings and wars and
miracles and ancient technology that is far superior to ours and Kashyapa and
Sigiriya! But if someone tried to decipher the stuff I post on this blog after
a hundred years - I'll be feeling the same as the blogger on Kadapath Pawura.
And what exactly is that feeling? You tell me....
"Dude, it's just a bloody blog!"
Welcome to kUrUtU!
