Imagine yourself in the middle of the jungle, no connectivity to the outside world - 🚫electricity, telecommunication, water supply. 20 monks sit in silence as they consume lunch before midday (their code of conduct advises them not to have any meals after noon). Their meals prepared by the villagers 10km away. A pile of sand and bricks lie in one side of the monastery, signs of some construction, probably by the villagers. The hermit monks get up one by one, in silence, picks up a 5ltr bottle of water (also brought by the villagers) and goes away to their cells in the jungle, to meditate. #Bliss #SriLanka Follow @mevanpeiris on Instagram

Sri Lanka has matured from a Brat to a Twenty Year Old - What will we do now?

How refreshing to hear this!
(Watch Ranil's vote of thanks to the opposition)
With the revolutionary change on the 9th of Jan.. (why is it revolutionary? - because it was the 1st time that an incumbent President was defeated, nothing more, nothing less, don't get excited :p)...
... as a Nation Sri Lanka began it's maturing process.
Yes maybe this 100 days was an adolescence period where the present Gov tried to lash out in frustration at some of the misdeeds by the previous regime like a teenager would lash out at their parents.
The adoption of the 19th Amendment was definitely an adult choice (mostly by the opposition as mentioned by Ranil)
Now the question is - will this Nation (who today I believe is having the maturity of someone in their mid twenties) turn into a success story like the Mark Zuckerbergs and the Steve Jobs who all started in their mid twenties. Or, like some of the Young Twenty year olds - make some dumb choices which they will regret for most of their lives?
Breathe the fresh air, clear your mind and THINK - the way that the Nation (which is its people) act in the next few months will be crucial to determining the Sri Lanka that we will gift our future generations.
P.S: If you were wondering where we were before the 9th of Jan - I would say Sri Lanka was an 8 year old spoilt brat with no discipline what so ever! Comment with some of your favorite memories of that brat so that we can have a laugh and also remind ourselves that we will NEVER go back to being a brat! :)

Taking a turn off from the road to the entrance of Kumana National Park and a short distance from the Eastern beach of Paanama, Kudumbigala is a monastery of more than 200 cave accommodations; a 600 acre large hermitage built in 2nd century BC by King Devanampiyatissa. It is believed to be the legendary 'Chethiya Pabbatha' hermitage of the Kingdom of Ruhuna. After a challenging hike up the bare rock, you reach the summit with a spectacular 360 aerial view of Kumana and the Arugam Bay beaches. The other unique sight at the top is this Cylindrical Stupa - which is the only remaining in #SriLanka. It is similar in design to the Dhamma Chakka #Stupa in #Sarnath #India.

The Colombo Race course, then owned by the #Colombo Turf Club was opened for racing in 1893. During World War II this was a temporary Airfield for the #RoyalAirForce. After the war the #Airfield was dismantled and #HorseRacing resumed. It was banned permanently after #Ceylon gained Independence. The state took it over in 1958 and was used for various functions at different times. However it was brought to glory in 2011 under the 'Colombo City Beautification project' with the earnings of the hard-working People of #SriLanka!

The 22 storey Taj Mahal Tower was opened in '73 and designed by Melton Bekker. It's the new wing to the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel which was the first harbour landmark and the site of the first licensed bar in the City. In 2008 at least 31 died at the Taj due to the unfortunate #MumbaiAttacks by Terrorists.

Some interesting Advertisments (mostly published in the Newspaper) of yesteryear Sri Lanka.
Source: unknown. Received through a chain mail.
I like this one - "A singing machine called a Gramaphone!"
For a comfortable life - Lifebuoy Soap!
Goya Perfume - to be used while bathing and afterwards
Jumping Fish - Printed Material "New designs for Mother & Daughter"
There was a time in Sri Lanka where choice of fashion was definitely a luxury. Under the extreme socialist approaches taken by the great World's First Female Head of State (which we are all so proud of) you couldn't consume anything as much as you wanted. Food and other essentials was rationed so was clothing! Imagine the entire country having to stitch their dress with the same material!!? (And you complain that the stuff at ODEL are too common) :p
"I get all my strength through Marmite, so does my family". - WOW!
Sunlight Detergent Soap - presented as an alternative to the "Man who washes clothes" (in the traditional custom of washing and cleaning clothes by dashing it against a rock apparently this man creates more ripped clothes than washed clothes!)
Car Advert for a "FIAT 600 - 4 seater Saloon"
- Rollable large windows
- Comfortable seating for four with well lit interior
- Reclinable Rear seats
- Spray windscreen washer!
- Extra space underneath the bonnet for suitcases, bags etc.
- Levers on the steering wheel to control signal lights and head lights!
Rs. 7,850/- ($60 today)
An advert for a movie, written in the format of a letter to the people of Sri Lanka by the Movie Director.
